Wellness Programs – 

As Americans, we spend 1/3 or more of our time at work. A possible solution to the increase in chronic diseases such as diabetes and heart disease is worksite wellness. Worksite wellness can include healthy promotions such as physical activity, nutrition classes, smoking cessation, and disease awareness, among others, and can range from organized programs to informal walking groups.

As part of our contribution to Worksite Wellness, we offer onsite wellness fairs that focus on health risk assessments that are designed to identify health risks and outline information to assist a person in making healthful changes that impact their health and prevent chronic disease. In addition, through our vast resources we can construct and implement full-blown corporate wellness programs with specific goals and targeted results.

The long term success of a wellness program can be measured by several matrices. These include smoking cessation rates, reduced BMI numbers, and overall improved physical and mental fitness. When considering the potential premium savings associated with a wellness program, one must consider that one of the driving factors in the determination of premiums is claims experience. So, looking out long term, if one was able to reduce claims experience or utilization, this will lead to overall premium reductions for the employer and employee.

Health Care Reform – 

The passage of the Patient Protection and Affordable Care Act (PPACA) in 2010 set in motion the largest change in employer provided health benefits in the post-World War II era.  How the employer and employee are affected by the act will depend on factors such as the size of the employer, family incomes, and health conditions of the workers.
